The Menkiti Group and public officials celebrated the groundbreaking of 204 Main Street, an adaptive reuse project that will bring 20 housing units to downtown Worcester.
The project will see the long-vacant historic Kane Building transformed into moderate-income apartments and first-floor retail spaces. Located near the Worcester courthouse, the building has graced the city’s main street for nearly 100 years and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
Developers hope the updates will promote walkability and vibrancy. Residents will enjoy proximity to local businesses and public transit.
“204 Main Street reflects the kind of thoughtful, community-centered investment we believe in,” said Bo Menkiti, founder and CEO of The Menkiti Group in a press release. “By bringing new housing and retail space to an underutilized building, we’re advancing the city’s vision for a stronger, more connected downtown.”
The DC-based Menkiti group specializes in urban investment and neighborhood transformation. The Kane Building is just the latest in a portfolio of Worcester properties acquired and redeveloped by the company.
Construction has already begun with completion anticipated in 2026.
