Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders (TCB) opened The Lyndia, a housing project on Washington Street in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood that will serve low-income families and those transitioning out of homelessness. The project is the largest housing support development in New England.
Designed by Boston’s own RODE Architects, the 165,501-square-foot, 202-unit building also offers community and outdoor spaces and features work from local artists.
Through Pine Street Inn, residents of the Lyndia will have access to wrap-around services like medical care, mental health services, job training and life skills training.
“3368 Washington Street represents our unwavering commitment to ensuring every Bostonian has a safe, stable place to call home,” Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said at a grand opening event on March 12th. “With supportive services on-site and a strong community network, these new apartments provide a foundation for residents to rebuild their lives.”
The Lyndia’s construction comes amid city-wide efforts from public officials and non-profit organizations to create accessible housing options like a mixed-income rental development that opened in Jamaica Plain in 2023 — another TCB project.
At The Lyndia’s grand opening, Chris Thompson, undersecretary of housing stabilization for the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, addressed attendees. “Everyone has a role to play in meeting our housing needs in Massachusetts,” he said. “I am grateful for the new housing being created here for formerly homeless and low-income people.”
