by Liz Hughes

Five Massachusetts communities have made the list of America’s most expensive ZIP codes for 2024, with one ranking as the priciest in New England, according to a new Property Shark report.

Ten New England ZIP codes all together were ranked among the richest in the U.S. Eight of them had median sale prices well above $2 million and five are from Massachusetts.

Massachusetts again grabbed the highest spot in the region.

Low sales activity kept Boston’s Back Bay off the list. Last year 02199, fell to No. 31 after holding the No. 2 spot in 2021 when it set records at $5.5 million. It ranked 27th in 2022.

Boston still made the list of New England states with Beacon Hill and Downtown Boston 02108 coming in third with a $2.5 million median sale price. Nationally it ranked 54th.

Nantucket topped the list of New England states, with a $2.9 million median sale price. Nationally, Nantucket ranked No. 33, a jump from 2023 where it ranked 40th and 46th in 2022.

Wellesley Hills 02481 ranked fourth in New England at $2.3 million and 62nd nationally, jumping from last year’s No. 84 spot. It ranked 74th in 2022.

Weston 02493 took the No. 7 spot at $2.1 million and ranked 79th nationally falling from last year’s No. 70 spot and dropping 15 spots from 2022.

Waban 02468 ranked ninth in New England with a median home price of $1.95 million and 95th nationally, a decline from No. 71 in 2023 and No. 80 in 2022.

The priciest ZIP code in the U.S. was Atherton (94027) in San Mateo County, California, where the median sale price is $7.9 million, followed by Sagaponack (11962) in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island, where the median sale price stands at $5.95 million.
