Elaina Gordon Realtor, Venture Real Estate

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate? I was and still am a Technology Operations Manager, I love my job and the place I am employed.

Where did you grow up? Whitman, Massachusetts

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a manager. I thought it would be a restaurant manager but it ended up being technology.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I read. I exercise. I listen to music. I practice deep breathing.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Margret Thatcher.  She was so smart, wise and a force well before women were accepted in politics.

What is Boston’s best-kept secret? The food trucks in Downtown Crossing that have chicken kabob salads with feta are the best.

What do you love most about the industry? I love helping my family and friends find homes. I love to use my expertise to help them make good decisions on financing and pricing and competing in this very turbulent market.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I am not a sales agent. I am usually a friend or a friend of a friend or family and that is how I distinguish myself. I do not tell my buyers what they want to hear. I tell them my opinion, good or bad. Eventually, we will find them the right home, it’s not a race for me. If I think a home is overpriced I tell them. If I think they are listing it too high,

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? All my buyers and sellers know I have a full-time job that I’m committed to, so they go into this knowing they have to be flexible. I will give them any night and weekend and work hard for them after hours. But juggling expectations can be challenging as the market gets harder and harder to navigate. There have been some late nights writing up offers.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads? Get into your community. Go to events, volunteer your time and get your name and face out there. Make friends, friends tell other friends. It may take years for this to happen but if you keep at it you will see it happens.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? For me it’s been graduating from college, getting my engineering certification, then my real estate license and then my project management certification. All of these have served me well in both of my jobs.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately? All Creatures Great and Small.” I’m reading “The Return,” by Nicholas Sparks and I love feel-good music, like soft rock

What’s your favorite meal in Boston? Eggplant Rollatini

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? The Pregnant Building, it puffs out in its midsection, it’s pretty cool!

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job? I passed out!

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you? That I survived a brain aneurysm.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why? Bermuda, because my husband and I had our first vacation there and it was amazing. The water is the most beautiful shade of blue.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Stick with it and keep showing up

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? MLS Pinergy

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media? I follow South Shore Realtors and other realtors to get ideas and updates on houses hitting the market.

What are your social media handles? elainagordonrealtor
