Greater Boston Real Estate Board launches next phase of campaign against transfer taxes

by Liz Hughes

The Greater Boston Real Estate Board has launched phase two of its efforts urging voters to contact their state senators in opposition to “damaging economic policies such as transfer taxes and focus on prioritizing real housing solutions.”

Launched in April, the StopNewTaxesMA.com campaign urges legislators to reject harmful economic policies like transfer taxes and instead focus on viable housing solutions. It uses text messages, patch-through calls and more to connect voters to legislators to speak out against the transfer taxes. It also features online and Facebook ads to educate voters.

Greg Vasil, CEO of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, said instead of looking at policies like transfer taxes, which would increase costs and discourage housing creation, leaders on Beacon Hill must focus on reforms that reduce red tape and create more homes across all price points.

“While we are thrilled our campaign aided in preventing the passage of transfer taxes in the House of Representatives, we know the battle is far from over, and members of the Massachusetts Senate must continue to hear the opposition coming from all corners of the Commonwealth,” Vasil said.

According to GBREB, StopNewTaxesMA.com will also highlight alternative housing solutions that the Commonwealth should prioritize to boost production and address the long-standing housing crisis.
