MAR warns agents of new texting-while-driving law

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors wants to get the word out to Realtors that driving while using a cell phone could face fines of up to $500, beginning on Feb. 23.

The state’s new hands-free driving law imposes a $100 fine for first offenses, $250 for a second offense and $500 for a third offense. Those ticketed for a third offense also must complete a distracted driver educational program and pay an insurance surcharge, MAR notes in a press release.

The law applies to use of any electronic device while driving.
