This Week in Boston Real Estate: Mod apartments, high home prices and more

Home sales around Boston may have increased since last April, but homebuyers are still seeing high prices around the city. The Boston Globe reported the median price of a single-family home in April was at a record high of $612,000. Condo prices in Boston rose to $593,629.

In comparison to April 2017, the median price for a single-family home in Central Middlesex was $786,000 and condos were $488,600. In Eastern Middlesex, single-family homes saw a median of $575,000 and the median for a condo reached $464,900. Metro West saw a median increase to $660,000 for single-family homes and a decrease to $329,500 for condos. Similarly, Southern Folk had a median increase to $471,909 for single-family homes and a decrease to $275,000 for a condo, according to the newspaper.

Curbed also attributed the price increase to the fact that many homebuyers can afford high prices because of their high salaries.   • A new apartment building, made up of modular boxes, is coming to The Graphic in Charlestown. According to the Boston Real Estate Times, the project of placing 129 mod boxes and is expected to be finished in approximately one month. As the largest mod project in Boston, The Graphic is bringing 171 apartments, 4,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 113 parking spaces to the area. 
  • After five years of repairs, the Longfellow Bridge has reopened to motor vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and the Red Line. According to The Boston Globe, the traffic flow is a little different than before. Instead of two vehicle lanes to Cambridge, there’s only one now, but the Boston-bound route still has two lanes. Both sides of the bridge have protected bicycle lanes. Despite the opening, the project is still not complete and repairs on the footbridge over Storrow Drive will continue until the fall.
