Boston landed the No. 10 position for the greenest cities in America in a new ranking from realtor.com.
The data collected each city’s parkland as a percentage of city area, air quality index, number of plots in community gardens, and farm-to table options per capita.
Qualities ranking Boston at No. 10 include:
- Boston has the longest history of urban farming in the country
- Many restaurants offer “farm-to-table” dishes
- The area contains 17.1 percent parkland
- The oldest operating World War II garden, which contains 7.5 acres with more than 500 gardens, is located in Boston
- The Arnold Arboretum features 15,000 living plants
