New Jersey’s Mysterious Wooden Chair

While the four-story house is odd in and of itself, with a steeple-like tower and pagoda-styled roof, what strikes passersby most is the standard straight-back wooden chair that sits atop the very pinnacle of the house. Local legend claims the chair was used during the Revolutionary War as a lookout post to spy on advancing Redcoat troops, while some locals refer to it as the “Punishment Chair,” where unruly children were banished until they were ready to behave themselves.
