A new project will bring 41 new housing units to East Boston’s Orient Heights Square.
Construction on two parcels of land at 2 Ford St. and 970 Saratoga St. will include building two separate, four-story, mixed-use buildings. Each will be a mix of residences and retail space and include one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The retail space is intended for East Boston residents.
The Boston Planning & Development Agency approved the project at its Sept. 14 meeting.
The Ford Street building will house 27 units, and the Saratoga Street building will have 14 units, seven of which will be income-restricted. According to the filing, at least one building will be considered for the city of Boston’s voucher program.
The transit-oriented development is located close to the MBTA Blue line and will have space for bicycle parking for both residents and visitors.
Developers will contribute $50,000 toward making pedestrian improvements, like crosswalks, as well as an art installation and upkeep of the Noyes Playground or another neighborhood public park. A portion will also support the city’s bikeshare program.
