Overstock.com enters real estate market with new management site

by Roz Zweig and Geraldine Markel

Overstock.com is breaking into the real estate market with the upcoming launch of O Real Estate, its new property management site.

Overstock purchased Houserie in February, establishing a foundation for their overall goal: to be a one-stop real estate shop. The company will now manage properties for landlords, offering detailed background checks of potential renters, screenings and rent management.

“For nearly 20 years, Overstock has connected customers with premium home goods, helping them build their dream homes; now, we look forward to expanding those services in the real estate industry,” senior vice president of strategy Seth Moore said in a statement.

Building off Overstock.com’s existing search technology, the new management site aims to be a tech-oriented portal, making renting, buying and managing properties easier. Adding real estate to their wheelhouse was a “natural fit for our brand,” Moore added.

The website redesign is only the first step in Overstock’s O Real Estate initiatives, with the full site set to launch in September.
