What was your first job in the realty industry? Realtor
Where did you grow up? On the south shore (Weymouth/Quincy)
Growing up, what did you want to be? A teacher, a therapist and a foster parent… sometimes I think I’m all of those as a Realtor.
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Take myself on a day date to lunch and a movie, or walk around a book store or library
If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Rachael Ray – I love that she’s constantly reinventing herself and her product to fit her niche market while still staying true to her brand.
Where is your favorite place to hang out? A trendy coffee shop like the Stoughton House of Brews or Coffee Break Cafe. I always run into a familiar face and the atmosphere is so inviting.
What do you love most about the industry? Every transaction is different and there’s always something new to learn.
How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I learned from a previous manager that following up and getting on the phones would be the fastest pathway to success. I make sure that I’m consistent with my follow up, and schedule time in my calendar for phone calls each week. I’m not just calling to “check in” – I make it a point to find a reason to call- whether it’s to share some news about a new listing, to talk about the rate increase, or to provide information about a home that sold in their neighborhood. Listening to clues and taking notes about what you and the client have discussed go a long way in the relationship.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job? I wear my heart on my sleeve, and knowing when you can’t help someone anymore than they want to be helped is a hard reality for me.
Where do you go to network and meet new clients? To my phone book – a lot of my business comes from past clients, friends and family.
What has been your greatest accomplishment? As a non-athlete, I committed myself in 2009 to participate in the Nation’s Triathlon with the support of Team in Training for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and raised close to $10,000.
In 2015, after not picking up my running shoes in almost six years, I again foolishly committed myself to participating in a race – this time for 12 races to be exact. I ran a 5K every month in 2015 for a variety of causes, as my New Year’s resolution was to do things that would make me uncomfortable.
What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I am re-reading “The Miracle Morning” for the third time –every time I read it I discover something I missed or read something in a different way that really resonates with me.
What is your favorite restaurant? Fuji in Quincy for lunch and Cibo Matto Cafe in Mansfield for dinner
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? The Federal Reserve building. It’s so distinct, when I was little I remember thinking it was an oversized washboard.
What kind of car do you drive? A Chevy Equinox
Smartphone or paper? Paper for daily notes and things I need to remember, Google Calendar for appointments and longer term planning
What is your favorite city after Boston? Washington, DC or Chicago
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Join a broker that will be a great mentor/coach
