James S. Velozo and his son Jared A. Phillips have a combined 31 years in the real estate industry, and at the beginning of 2017, the two founded Clockhouse Realty, Inc., a full-service real estate brokerage firm serving Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Velozo, the firm’s president and principal broker, and Phillips, the VP and Director of Operations, are both longtime residents of the Boston area. Along with their 25 agents, they provide clients with personalized, hyperlocal expertise.

“Each of our agents has a respective specialty,” Velozo says. “They are empowered by our brand to excel in whatever markets they choose. The result is that Clockhouse Realty works within the luxury, commercial, rental and residential markets.”

Velozo was a broker with his father’s company and introduced Phillips to that world at a young age. “Working with my father has been a dream come true,” Phillips says. Together, they harness their collective energy and passion for the industry, along with the knowledge and experience they’ve gained over the years.

During the next three to five years, Velozo and Phillips hope to expand their company to 1,000 agents, with representatives in every town within Massachusetts and Rhode Island. “We both have an understanding of the numbers and a realistic view on where we want this company to go, and it is the key to our continued success,” Phillips says.

Clockhouse Realty has often been recognized for its innovation. Implementing a mobile business model has enabled the company to offer higher commission splits for agents along with no company-related fees or hidden costs, which are common among most brokerages. While the no-office model was initially met with some speculation from prospective agents, the Clockhouse’s “all-in” 90/10 commission split proved persuasive, and the company has grown tremendously. Velozo describes the commission split as the “cleanest in the country. Our business model is not built upon sales volume, but the principle of agent acquisition in order to expand our brand.”

Clockhouse Realty is a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors and the Rhode Island Association of Realtors, as well as multiple local Realtor boards throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 2018, Velozo and Phillips plan on starting the Clockhouse Realty, Inc. Foundation to help raise money for Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund.
